Description
Summary:nunny-bag The elongated, crossbarred object object on the left is labelled "Bochmoot, or Seal skin Sledge full." It represents the entire skin of a seal, and the crossbars are an internal framework of wooden rods which made the skin hold its shape. Shananditti did not indicate what the Bochmoot was filled with. Seal skin sledges were also used by the European fishermen living in Newfoundland. They called them "nunny bags." When pulled in the direction of the hair's growth, they slid with great east over the snow and ice. PRINTED ITEM GMS Jan 76 (With great care: book is by an ill-informed author; but food-bags made of seal-skin were not improbable NE coast artifacts, and very large ones may well have been hauled over the snow and ice by sealers). -- a kind of sledge, I suppose -- Used I and Sup Used I Not used
