saddleback n Pennant had no information on the breeding habits of the Great Black-backed Gull, p. 257. Cartwright adds: 'They breed on small islands on the coasts of Newfoundland & Labrador where they are called Saddlebacks. They build their nests on the eminencies [_sic_] of heath, lay three eggs which are spotted black, thick at one end and small at the other, and weigh four ounces. PRINTED ITEM W. J.
