Description
Summary:settler n On the southern coast a distinction is also made between _liveyeres_, English-speaking, semi-settled fishermen and _habitants_, semi-settled fishermen who speak French. The former are also termed 'planters' or 'settlers'.the term 'settler' should be eliminated because it may give rise to confusion; in the coastal district of North Makkovik this is the term given to some semi-settled half-breeds of white and Eskimo; it is better therefore to avoid the word, or to use the term 'white settler' to avoid misunderstanding.
