Description
Summary:spy n,v _"Spy" Wednesday_ is the name given to the Wednesday immediately preceding Maundy Thursday. My mother is the only person I have heard use the term. I remember that once, when she told me I was born on Spy Wednesday, I asked her why the day was so named. She said that she [reverse] supposed it was because on that day the Jews sent out men to spy on Christ and see if there were any way of capturing him. My mother was raised in the Roman Catholic tradition, and I imagine that is why no one else in the family uses the term "Spy Wednesday," since my father and most of our relatives are either Anglicans or United Church people.
