Description
Summary:leader n A cod-trap is made of small twine knitted together and/ formed like a box with a bottom to it. There is also a plain piece of netting from forty to eighty fathoms long, which is called a "leader". . In the centre of one side there is an opening about six feet wide through which the leader passes into the trap for several feet. These traps are usually set with the free end of the leader fastened to the land by a line, known as a shore-fast. The leader is then set off shore, and the trap is put in its proper depth of water, if possible. It must be kept in position by anchors and moorings. PRINTED ITEM DNE-cit G. M.
