leader n A most important part of the codtrap is the "leader", which is simply a wall of fairly large mesh. The leader hangs from the surface to the bottom and extends from the shore or "sunker" to which the trap is moored into the doorway of the trap. Cod swimming along by the coast thus have their direction diverted into the trap where they are still free to move around.
