Description
Summary:labrador n The Arctic or Labrador Current, after passing through Davis Strait, proceeds down the coast of Labrador and eastern Newfoundland. Near the land it is influenced greatly by the wind, which affects both its direction and velocity. A western branch sometimes enters the Gulf of St. Lawrence through the Strait of Belle Isle, and rejoins the main current off the coast of Nova Scotia after passing through Cabot Strait. The main current usually turns west-southwest at Cape Race, but sometimes it follows a northwesterly course as far as Cape Ray, and may even enter the Gulf of St. Lawrence. PRINTED ITEM DNE-cit G. M.
