Description
Summary:like Another event which had like to end in Tradgey (sic). was the usual spring trip with a full load of Supplies and approx 400 fishermen in May. the S.S. Neptune with Capt. Joyce of Carbonear in command and Chief Engineer T. Crossman from St. John's we met the Arctic Ice after passing Fogo and worked our way through it within 20 or 30 miles of the Groas Island when we heard a loud noise and the old ship began to shake and tremble with the vibration of her engines turning over at a terrific rate and Chief Crossman jumped for the controlls (sic) and turned off the steam to find the web of the propellor shaft broken and we were at the mercy of the ice jam unable to move. .
