Summary:square a . a few "square flipper"seals are sometimes sighted by the Newfoundland hunters. These are larger, but so few in numbers as to have no commercial importance. They also migrate from the north,and whelp near Newfoundland; but apparently the young are not born until well into April. These young square-flippers weigh from 160 to 180 pounds when only a week or two old. The old ones are solitary in their habits, and are rarely seen in pairs or groups. _Phoca barbata_ is the wise ones' name for the square flipper . PRINTED ITEM DNE-cit W.J.
