Description
Summary:salmon "If the net is going to be made by hand, you will need to purchase the following: "For a net 50 fathoms in length brought to on halves and 30 6" meshes deep you will need 1000 fathoms of linnet, which is twine already knit, plus 2 rands of twine to rope the net in, approximately 100 plastic floats or corks, approximately 104 fathom of 1/4" or 3/8" braided nylon rope. This will give you 52 fathom for the headrope and 52 fathom for the cork or float rope. You will also need 5 fathom for the two skirt ropes and 50 fathom of lead line. Two graplins and two floats or kegs are needed for when the time comes to set the net. "The first thing done in making the net is that the linnet is roped onto the headrope. Then the floats are put onto the float rope about 1/2 fathom apart. They are kept in place by pieces of twine that are wound around the head and float ropes at each end of the float. The skirt ropes are then put on each end of the net and then the lead line is roped onto the bottom of the net. This line sinks the net and keeps it in fishing order. DNE-cit.
