Description
Summary:amalgamated ppl The third influence upon the growth and development of the Newfoundland school system since 1949 has been the increasing co-operation among religious denominations. Although Amalgamated schools were recognized as far back as 1903, such schools were administered either by denominational boards or by local committees, as were the schools at Corner Brook and Grand Falls. An amendment to the 1927 Education Act, made in 1943, permitted the setting up of Amalgamated school boards. Since then, there has been a steady growth of Amalgamated school services. The denominations co-operating in this way have been the Anglican, United Church, Salvation Army, and Pentecostal Assemblies. PRINTED ITEM G.M.
