Summary: | Jakey's gin The amount of home brew manufactured in St. John's is well below that made several years ago. Thanks to easier methods to obtain the necessary ingredients, home wine production is up but nearly no brew or beer is made. Those who provided the information didn't really know the reason for the reduction but I maintain its due to more money being available to more people. The longer opening hours for our liquor stores could also have something to do with it. I'm also told that there's been no reduction in the amount of "Jakey's Gin" being purchased. "Jakey's Gin", in case you didn't know, is hair tonic drank for its alcoholic content. The east end of Duck- worth Street used to be the main location for its sale but now the outlet has moved farther west of the same street.
