Summary:jacky n _Jacky Lantern_ (Brigus) JW. Jack o' Lantern, we missed out when we were talking about _the Boo-man._ Now you talked about the fact _the Boo-man_ could be a _light_, what partic- ularly was Jack o' Lantern supposed to be, and how would he be threaten- ed on children? H. _Jacky Lantern_ [_PT_] was a sort of a .a frightening figure like, but he was always over on _the hill_, sort of. JW. Always at a distance and usually out well away somewhere? H. Yeah. An' in the sense.he wasn't used as a frightening figure, not in Brigus, for the peopl(e).the families that I know that were acquainted with him. He was sort of _a light_ [_PT_] over on _the hill_, _Jacky Lantern_ _[PT]_ _[PT]_. I think he was sort of lonely chap. You just.had a sort o' feeling for him. You see.there might be _a light_ [PT] up on _the hill_ at night - it could be just a _star_ just shinin' over the edge of _a hill_ - but in some cases I think this has been believed that there was a light _[PT]_ goes in.I know there are some stories told of _a light_ _[PT]_ goin' over a certain _hill_ out home, this is Cupids Hill. People really associate this to _Jacky Lantern_ _[PT]_. JW. So it's a strange _light_ anyway, and children wouldn't make.wouldn't kno -w.wouldn't be able to explain it, so it wouldn('t be.wouldn't be a pleasant thing in a sense to many.many kids? I see that you have down here, you know, that.that you.the Jack o' Lantern in fact was one o' the things that.that you felt was a bit frightening, or some people felt was a bit frightening. H. It could, but it wasn't used in a strict sense of frightening. JW. As a threat. H. Not necessarily . It was (the) sort of thing, well, you went over in _the night_. In _The night the hill_ was his domain. You just weren't going to go near over. [reverse] there. But he didn't come and bother you either. He wanted to be left by himself. JW. Very good H. This is the impression you got, an' so. Yes J. WIDDOSON 1477 [check] [reverse] [check] J. WIDDOSON Used I Not Used Withdrawn jacky ...
