| Summary: | ice n Common Dovekie. Plautus alle alle (Linnaeus). Local Names: Bull-bird, Ice- bird. Description: Length 7 1/2 to 9 inches, bill one-half inch, wing-spread 14 to 15 1/2 inches. Breeding plumage: upper parts black, shading down to sotty-brown on both sides of head and throat; under parts white; bill black; legs and feet flesh-coloured, with black webs. Winter plumage: similar, but white extends up to bill and nearly around back of head, to give appearance of white collar. Field Marks: The smallest of our sea birds, with black upper parts and white under parts.Common winter resident and sometimes a summer straggler. Generally arrives in October and most depart by late May. They often occur in countless numbers in the slob ice.
