Description
Summary:half This word means all-leather boots which come about halfway between the ankle and the knee. On both sides of each boot were loops to aid in pulling them on. These boots were worn a long time ago, when they were no real shoes. The women would wear them drying fish or around the house. They were worn on land and while fishing. My grandfather wore them about 1920-21, and my great grandfather would oil them to keep them soft, polish them with stove polish, and wear them to church on Sunday, about 1915-16. Not common and heard only among adults. [see 'ankerjacks', 'ankle jacks'] Used I and Sup Used I Used I ankerjacks, ankle jacks Cited in the DNE as P 189-65
