Description
Summary:away Re your note of some time ago. George, I haven't forgotten about this. I will, eventually write an article or note about it. There is enough material to make some sound statements about the constr. for Nfld English. I have found no comparable evidence for any other English dialect. Nfld. _away to chuck_ 'throw it!' (to a pitcher) goes beyond what is in _EDD_. I have seen (and heard) enough now to be convinced that this constr. should be incorporated into _DNE II_. However, should it be entered (just) under _go_, when the verb can in fact vary? _Graham._ Not used Not used Not used Checked by Cathy Wiseman on Tue 09 Sep 2014
