Description
Summary:hermit On p. 102, Pennant referred to an observation on beavers by Andrew Graham who lived for many years at Hudson's Bay, and sent collections of birds and mammals to Daines Barrington and the Royal Society: 'They are said to have a sort of a slavish beaver amongst them (analogous to the Drone) which they employ in servile works, and the domestic drudgery!. Cartwright writes: 'Mr. Graham is mistaken; he supposes the Hermit-beaver to be the drone but these are only such as have lost their mates and, like swans not being inclined to pair again, live by themselves.'
