Description
Summary:A2 _Note on the Dialect File_ 1._Content_. The items in this dialect file are not _edited_ - that is, the file contains everything that has been collected and contributed, and has not been culled, on the principle that any pre-selection would prejudice a rational decision on every scope of the work. 2._Order_ .The items are filed in strict _alphabetical order_, but with cross-references which will facilitate the bringing together of variant forms when the material accumulated is sufficient to permit decisions on the form of head-entries. Within this general alphabetical arrangement, the following order has been adopted: (a) A printed citation precedes items collected orally, and the printed slips are arranged _chronologically_. (b) Items collected _orally_ are arranged in _chronological_ order of their report. _see over on next card_ 1.
