Description
Summary:garden The old-type Sunday school picnics, involving the whole community, were replaced in the late 1930's by the Garden/Party which the Anglican and United Churches held annually until the 1960's. Here patrons paid for their meals and for the entertainments. There were different games and competitions . . . with prizes . . . Sometimes these affairs were kept up for two nights. On the first night, a substantial "cold plate" would be served . . . On the second night, instead of a "cold plate" the women might serve hot soup - . . . - along with tea and cake . . . Never did a Garden Party in Elliston end with a dance, yet in neighbouring communities a dance always ended the Garden Party. WK- May /1973 JH May 1973 DNE-cit Used I and Sup Used I and Sup 4 Used I
