| Summary: | accent In his lecture on _Placentio_ Mr. LeMessurier writes: "One accent in Placentia Bay has always puzzled me, it belongs to the people residing on the shores of Cape St. Mary's and is peculiarly their own. Neither English, Irish nor French. Its main peculiarity is the pronounciation [sic] of the letter 'r' which is rather not pronounced but avoided, and a gutteral sound given that I cannot explain." "Since the above lecture was given," Mr. LeMessurier adds, "I have been informed this accent is peculiar to a part of Brittany and therefore it must have been imported by the Bretons which were probably earlier settlers on this shore."
