Description
Summary:frost Before we were allowed to seek the warm shelter of Robert Coomb's house, both Dick and I had to be defrosted. This consisted of rubbing our noses and cheek-bones with snow - the said parts of our anatomy having assumed the colour of ivory. Given this treatment, there are no after-effects from frost-bite, but in cases where a lonely traveller may enter a house unaware that he has been touched, the effect is like the application of a red-hot poker! That is why the term 'frost-burn' is used rather than that of 'frost-bite'! See cited quotation PRINTED ITEM DNE-cit G. M. Story JAN 1973 JH JAN 1973 Used I and Sup Used I and Sup Used I Only the latter half of the cited quotation appears in the DNE; from "in cases where a lonely traveller" to the end. It appears under the same source information but the "treatment" aspect does not appear at all.
