The chief attendants were the "father-giver" and the "mother-giver", and the other attendants, if there were any others, were dubbed "bridesgirls" and "bridesboys". The "father-giver" was a cross between the "father" and the "best man"; he performed both duties. .when the minister asked "who giveth this woman" he responded, but he still stayed in his position and "supported" the groom.
