| Summary: | dibs The standard way of claiming ownership of something found when I was a child to call "Dibs." The first to call "dibs" was the owner. If it was doubtful as to whether you would want to own it the right of examination and possible ownership was called "First Dibs." The next claimant called "second dibs" and so on.
