Description
Summary:chamber This was a round, bowl-shaped receptable with a handle. It reposed under the bed, or in a special place reserved for it in the lower part of the "wash-stand", for the use of the bed-room's occupant should he be "short-taken" during the night. It was always part of the crockery-ware toilet set (which consisted of wash-basin and jug, soap dish, tooth-brush holder, etc., all of which are now collector's items). Some of the sets were handsomely ornamented with floral designs. There were also, of course, the common or garden variety of white enamel chamber-pots. Incidentally the contents of the pots were collected each morning in an enamel slop-pail, or night-bucket, for disposal.
