Summary:cat n 'My great-uncle wrote up this report of games: "About sixty years ago the boys of our school used to play a game, something like sheet hockey today, except we called it "boat." It did not cost us a cent for materials. We would start with a small point tin or small block of wood, and straight sticks (a picket, perhaps) We called sides [check] [reverse] so as to be evenly matched. One team would hit the object up the road and the other tear down the road that had fences on either side. When the school bell rang (* they would play this during recess and dinner hours), the boys who had gained the most road were called the warriors (Ex. Sometimes one team would be extra strong and be able to beat their opponent back 1/4 miles.) We did not mind being spattered with mud for that was part of the game."
