Description
Summary:colcannon n Cawcannon (sometimes mistakenly pronounced as if it were caulcannon) a mixture of white cabbage, parship and potato - cooked and mashed with butter and milk. Served on a big platter with a spoon on Halloween. The cawcannon usually had money, thimbles, etc. hidden in it (like pancakes on Pancake Night). It was the custom after eating this to turn the lights out and sit around and tell ghost stories.
