This word has been in my family for years as long as my mother can remember 1900 (He grand parents used it. Although it is not used now very frequently, It does come up sometimes n out house hold. I should add an after thought- that it was suggested to me that perhaps this word is 'coddled'. The cod fish is claimed to be a very stupid fish and there may be a connection here.
