Description
Summary:This small collection consists of a teacher's examination copy book containing examinations with answers for Health (1942), Geography - (Grade VII, 1942), Literature (Grade VII), Literature (Grade VIII), Newfoundland History, Health, and Geography (Grade VIII, June 1944). - Tucked into the book were a time table for grades seven and eight, probably for the same time period, and a song sheet with music for "The Old - Gray Mare". While there are copies of the Council of Higher Education final examination papers available in printed form from 1913, they only - cover grades IX, X and XI. Examinations that were set by teachers have seldom survived, especially in the lower grades. The examples available - here provide a unique opportunity for researchers to study both examination content and format. - - The collection also contains three class attendance registers for the 1944-1945 school year, giving the names of all pupils attending the school - during that year for grades IV, V, VI, VII and VIII. A fourth register covers grades VII and VIII for the 1942-1943 school year. Tucked inside the - 1942-1943 register were five single leaves which listed the names of each student attending the school that year and their monthly school fee - payments. These items could be of interest to researchers studying school attendance and truancy, and to genealogists and family historians.
