Description
Summary:Julia Morgan spent her working life in the field of education and community development. The materials contained in this collection document her work with the Adult Education Division of the Department of Education and include a short overview of community groups in the Burin area in the years just before Confederation. Her work with the Department of Public Welfare on a pilot project in community development for the town of Windsor from 1953 to 1958 is well documented and includes minutes of meetings, membership lists and correspondence that went into the organization and development of a citizen's committtee and subsequent Community Council. After obtaining her doctorate from the University of Wisconsin in 1960 she was appointed to the newly formed Extension Service of Memorial University at the time her brother M.O. Morgan was Dean of Arts. Her work during the early years of MUN Extension is covered through correspondence and through speeches given to community groups and school graduations. Her work at Extension also included being one of the first field representatives in Bonavista. This work is documented through transcripts of interviews and speeches. There are also research papers and other material from her days as a student at the University of Wisconsin.
