Summary: | This collection consists of eight handwritten notebooks by Edward John Goudie. Goudie worked as a fisherman, sealer, miner, and seaman in Newfoundland, Canada and the United States from the 1880's to the early 1940's. The memoirs were written during the late 1930's and early 1940's and document his working life with some biographical references. This collection provides insight into the occupational culture, work experience, customs and traditions.Goudie's grandson had the memoirs typed and copied with the title "Log of a Sealer", a copy of which is held in the Centre for Newfoundland Studies.
