| Summary: | The Leslie Mills Tuck fonds contains the personal and professional papers of the man who became the first Dominion Wildlife Officer in Newfoundland in 1949. It provides a concise and encapsulated record of the operation and work of the Canadian Wildlife Service in Newfoundland for the first 25 years of Confederation. Much of this record was created by Tuck, who played a major role in the development, direction and implementation of government policy as it affected Newfoundland wildlife. - - Tuck was ever eager to speak to any group on virtually any aspect of Newfoundland wildlife. This is reflected through the many talks, lectures, radio broadcasts and other public presentations he gave, both as an official representative of the Canadian Wildlife Service and from his own interests as a person committed to wildlife management and protection. Many of these presentations are in this collection. Also present is material related to the publication of Tuck's two monographs: The Murres (1961) and The Snipes (1972), including awards he received for them from The Wildlife Society. - - The collection will be of interest to researchers of many aspects of Newfoundland natural history, and particularly those interested in the changes and developments in wildlife management that resulted from Confederation with Canada in 1949. -
