Description
Summary:This collection consists of a photograph of Patrick Tasker encased in a tin frame. The photograph was taken in 1859 or 1860 by Archibald Robertson, a photographer who was then operating a studio at 88 Glassford Street, Glasgow, Scotland. Glued to the back of the frame was a sticker identifying the subject of the photograph as Tasker. The sticker is a printed one bearing the address "The Druggist, 488 Water Street, St. John's, Nfld., Telephone 2334"; the top of the sticker is missing but would have identified the druggist as Peter O'Mara who operated a drugstore on that site for most of this century. The sticker dates from mid-century, however: the street address for the drugstore changed from 50 Water Street West to 488 Water Street in 1941-1942; therefore, the sticker would have to be after the latter dates. The photograph is a formal portrait of a well dressed young man and is in very good condition considering its age. -
