Description
Summary:The Victorian Triumph (1898) is the second volume of poetry by Isabella Whiteford. Since the publication of her first volume entitled Poems (1860), she had become a well-known literary figure in the colony, marrying James Johnstone Rogerson in 1879. Victorian Triumph contains 101 poems which, like her previous collection, focus on such topics as nature, the passage of time, historical and local community events, and religious themes. Many poems draw on her philanthropical work, which she shared with her husband as an active member of the Methodist Church. (G.M. Story, "Whiteford, Isabella (Rogerson)," Dictionary of Canadian Biography, vol. 13.) Missing page: xii, from the table of contents. Autographed frontispiece. Includes an introduction by D.W. Prowse (p. v-viii).
