Summary:Aubrey Spencer, the first Bishop of the Church of England in Newfoundland (bishop 1839-43), uses a discussion of Acts XX:28 as a means of appealing for support in his drive for a new cathedral in St. John's. The cornerstone was in fact laid before he left the island. In the Preface Spencer opposes any overtures towards Catholics in the city. Appended is an exhortation to the members of the Church of England in Newfoundland for the erection of a Cathedral, a copy of the proposed building's prospectus, and a list of contributors.
