Summary: | This pamphlet contains five previously published letters by Catholic Bishop of Newfoundland Michael Fleming (bishop 1830-50) on the state of the Catholic religion on the island. They were reprinted together and sold in order to help raise money for the ongoing construction of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in St. John's. They describe the state of the Faith when Fleming became bishop, his efforts to build the Cathedral, and his expansion and improvement of education in the colony. The Cathedral was elevated to a Basilica in 1955. |
