His father Cecil Pye was born in Battle Harbour and his mother was Viola (nee Bellows). His paternal grandparents were Lorenzo Pye of Lodge Bay and Mary-Jane (nee Butt) of Carbonear. His maternal grandparents were Kenneth and Mariah Bellows of Corner Brook. Malcolm married Verna Pye in 1965.
