| Summary: | In this paper we attempt to give a concise description of some aspects of verb morphology in Newfoundland Micmac, showing, where such exist, differences between them and those of mainland Micmac. -- To begin with we have given a brief account of the Micmacs in Newfoundland, deeming such an account a necessary prelude to the study of their language. Thereafter we have discussed the personal and inflexional endings of intransitive and transitive verbs. -- These determined we proceed to an analysis of the intransitive and transitive verbs per se, summing our conclusions with respect to these verb categories and including lists of intransitives and transitives which we obtained in researching this paper. -- The following chapter is then devoted to a brief study of the formation of the past and future tenses of the indicative mood. -- The final chapter contains our conclusions with respect to the verb morphology of Newfoundland Micmac. We have also suggested another area of research which could be undertaken with the utmost urgency because of the rapid depletion of our sources of linguistic information. |
