Summary: | This Report consists of two parts. The first section is a description of an internship completed in the Diagnostic and Remedial Unit at Memorial University, St. John's, Newfoundland. It includes the rationale, a description of the setting, internship goals and the related professional activities performed to meet these goals. The second section describes the project which was completed as the research component of the internship. In order to test the hypothesis that separation anxiety decreases with the age of a child, a Derived Pictorial Experimental Pardigm was administered to 80 children in four different age groups. -- Separation anxiety showed a decline with age with the main effects attributable to the youngest age groups (3-4 years of age). Even though this gradual decline is evident this study suggests that separation anxiety continues at a relatively high level for all age groups tested. -- The results of this sample will be later used for comparison with Australian and Israeli samples. All of the results will then be used to develop a normed test to assess the levels of anxiety in young children. |
