Quality Daily Physical Education (QDPE) is a school program introduced in Canada in 1987. The purpose of this study was to examine the attitude of specialist and non-specialist teachers of physical education toward QDPE in Newfoundland and Labrador between May-October 1994. It was designed to determine whether there was any difference between the attitude of specialist and non-specialist teachers of physical education and to compare the findings between male and female teachers at various school categories and regions. -- The sample for the study was proportionally stratified from among the population of teachers of physical education in Newfoundland and Labrador. The basis used for this were mainly five regions, 33 different school boards and three school categories (i.e. primary / elementary, junior high school and senior high school). The number sampled was 56 physical education specialist and 37 non-specialist teachers of physical education. Responses to an attitude statement were scored on a 5 point modified Likert scale. The scores were coded and computed into SPSS-X program for analysis. Inferential statistics and one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to analyze the data. -- The research findings indicated that there were no significant differences between the attitudes of specialist and non-specialist teachers of physical education toward QDPE in Newfoundland and Labrador at alpha .05 level of significance. Comparative study of the attitude of male specialist and female specialist teachers of physical education toward QDPE in Newfoundland and Labrador did not indicate any significant difference (alpha .05). -- Although no statistical difference was found, female specialist teachers of physical education appeared to be more positive toward QDPE than male specialist teachers of physical education.
