| Summary: | Research on immigrants and refugees in Canada has focused mainly on immigration, immigration policy, and settlement sector developments, with a dearth of studies on settlement service agencies. This study focused on the genesis and evolution of one service provider in Newfoundland and Labrador. The purpose of this research was to explore the efforts of this organization to assist with settlement and integration. Three aspects of settlement were explored: settlement services, language education, and labour market integration. This qualitative research used a case study methodology. Data was generated through data analysis and semi-structured interviews. The study provides information about and insight into an organization that has not been previously documented or fully recognized. It also forefronts considerations for the provision of ongoing and future programs and services. This research has important considerations for similar organizations, as well as for policymakers, educators and researchers. |
