Description
Summary:The purpose of this thesis is to investigatemen’s and women’s goals with their physical activities. Personal trainers, health educators, and other people, that work with physical training and health may profit from knowledge about this issue. The research questions intended to establish whether men and women are motivated by either extrinsic or intrinsic motivational factors. The hypothesis is based on previous studies and it suggests that men are more likely motivated by internal factors and women by external factors. The survey was dislocated in a region in northern Sweden encompassing 189 university students. Self-Determination Theory (Deci& Ryan, 2002) and its sub-categories were used to analyse the results. The results show that women are more likely to respond to intrinsic motivational factors than men and also scored higher than men when it came to extrinsic motivational factors. The results also show that there are some similarities between the two groups. The part of the results that show the differences between motivational factors of the genders contradict previous research findings and the hypothesis in this thesis.
