Summary:This Master’s thesis concludes the education Master of Science in industrial design Engineering towards Product design, at Luleå University of Technology. This Master’s thesis was conducted at the company TreCe and covers the product development of a bin designed for recycling. TreCe is one off the leading suppliers of furniture for office storage in the Fenno- Scandinavia countries. The company is about to develop a new recycling product for public indoor environments. The assignment of this project was to develop a new recycling bin, whose form and function was suited for recycling in smaller amounts and in three fractions. The Product's primary target group is architects and interior designers looking for a complementary to TreCes existing recycling furniture, but also future users and cleaning staff. The project's main goal was to develop a design that will appeal to the intended target groups. A prestudy was conducted by searching for information and data through benchmarking, interviews and a user survey. An initial interview was done with the client company to identify their market and audience group. Further interviews were made with the head of the department for office cleaning at Linköping University, and the purchasing manager at Skandia finances. In order to observe the product from a user perspective a questionnaire was formulated. The questionnaire was distributed to the cleaning staff at Linköping University and Luleå University of Technology. The submitted information was summarized by a problem determination and later précised in a set of requirements. The specification of requirement was used for evaluation and decision throughout the whole project. To take advantage of all the experience and innovation within the client company, and at the same time develop new creative ideas, all employees were gathered for a workshop.
