Summary:International conference Conservation of the Great Snipe (Gallinago media) breeding population: status, trends, habitat selection and management organized by Lithuanian Ornithological Society and Baltic Environmental Forum implementing the project "Strengthening institutional capacities for implementation of international conventions in agricultural landscape in Lithuania" supported by a grant from Norway through the Norwegian Financial Mechanism took place on 5-6 December 2010 in Vilnius. The aim of the conference was to review the latest data en the distribution and abundance trends of Great Snipe in various countries, its breeding habitat selection, restoration and protection of breeding sites, as well as to provide recommendations to the competent institutions regarding practical measures necessary to improve the conservation status of the species at the local and international level. During three sessions of the conference leading specialists presented current status of the species and conservation measures implemented in eight different countries. The conference finished with round table discussions during which most participants supported the idea to form the international working group for species research and conservation.
