Summary:The artide deals with the works of the Polish "1960 generation" writer Andrzej Stasiuk, which were published at the beginning of the 21st century in: Moja Europa (the co-author is the Ukrainian writer J. Andruchowycz), Jadqc do Babadag and Fado. In his essays, characterized by the reflective mood, the writer creates the picture of the "worse", forgotten Central Europe. The aim of the article is to highlight the main determinants of Central European identity, suggested by Stasiuk. These determinants are made up of such aspects as the later advance of civilization, the state of decline and destruction of matter, the remains of post-industrialism, tolerance of chaos, passiveness, idealization of the past, lack of trust of the present, provincialism, primitiveness, etc. Furthermore, these are also the features arousing the writer's sentiment: the rush of emotions, memory, mystification, daydream, disinterestedness, self-esteem, determination of survival, the vast space of the unknown, the potential for creating, etc. Stasiuk's style of writing is characterized by the concrete, sensuality, enumeration, philosophical reflection, etc.
