Summary:Fibre flax breeding has been carried out in Lithuania since 1922. Since 1966 flax-breeding has been carried out by the breeder K. Bačelis, who has developed 8 flax varieties: "Banga 2", "Upytė", "Upytė 2", "Baltučiai", "Vega 2", 'Alfa-B", No 1547-7-11 and "Kastyčiai", employing conventional plant breeding methods and experimental mutagenesis. The flax variety "Upytė 2" has been registered in Lithuania (1987-1998) and Estonia (1987-1992), "Baltučiai" has been registered in Lithuania (1991), in Belorussia (since 1992) and in Russia (since 1993). This variety has also been included into the "Register of the growing varieties in the region of North-West Russia". The variety "Vega 2" registered in Lithuania (1997) and Latvia (since 2001). The variety "Kastyčiai" was registered in Lithuania in 2000.
