Summary:The Verkiai Regional Park (Verkiai RP) is situated in north-eastern environs of Vilnius. The state of mammals was evaluated in the Verkiai RP for the period 1992-2003. A total of 42 mammal species were registered in the Verkiai RP during this investigation: five species of insectivores, eight species of bats, 14 species of rodents, one species of hares, 10 species of carnivores and four species of ungulates. Seven mammal species found - Myotis dasycneme, Barbastella barbastellus, Nyctalus noctula. Eptesicus serotinus, Eptesicus nilssoni, Mustela erminea and Lutra lutra - are included into the Red Data Book of Lithuania. Pipistrellus nathusii, Nyctalus noctula, and Myotis daubentoni were the most abundant among bats. Talpa europaea, Sorex araneus, Clethrionomys glareolus, Microtus arvalis, and Apodemus flavicollis dominated among small mammals. Castor fiber, Vulpes vulpes, Nyctereutes procyonoides, Martes martes, Mustela putorius, Sus scrofa, and Capreolus capreolus were the most abundant among medium- and large-sized mammals of the Verkiai RP.
