Description
Summary:Seismicity in the Eastern Baltic Sea region is lower than in the Fennoscandian shield. High seismicity of the shield in the last 13 000 years is well reflected in the Quaternary deposits. So far, no evidences of seismites have been described in the studies of the territory. Recent analysis of the Quaternary deposits shows that the structures earlier interpreted as cryoturbations, glaciotectonic or water-escape features show characteristics of the liquefaction-inducted deformations. The majority of them are related to the Late Glacial and Holocene and some to Middle Pleistocene, Eemian and Early Weichselian.
