Description
Summary:Investigation into Population Genetic Structure of Microtus arvalis, Microtus agrestis and Microtus oeconomus Using Cytochrome b DNA Marker Here we look through the biological and ecological characteristics of the Microtus genus that dwell in Lithuania. We review genetic diversity and genetic markers. We also analyzed other research of the Microtus genus evolution, phylogeny and phylogeography that was carried out worldwide, especially which is based on the analysis of mtDNA Cyt b gene variability. We assessed the genetic structure of voles in Lithuania by sequence analysis of a 703 bp fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene in 57 M. agrestis, 61 M. oeconomus and 30 M. arvalis specimens. Results confirmed the versatility of Micr-2 primers and showed that they are suitable for species identification. In addition, we identified five M. oeconomus, two M. arvalis and 25 M. agrestis haplotypes. The collected data shows that genetic diversity of M. agrestis is highest and genetic diversity of M. arvalis is lowest among the studied species.
