Description
Summary:Viešvilė Strict Nature Reserve located in western part of Lithuania in lowland Karšuva. The territory covers the complex of bogs and forests. Researches of biodiversity were carried out since the establishment of reserve (1991 year). In Viešvilė Strict Nature Reserve were found 4 species of ungulate animals: wild boar (Sus strofa), red deer (Cervus elaphus), roe-deer (Capreolus capreolus) and elk (Alces alces). Until now the roe-deer was the most abundant ungulate animal in the reserve, but during the last years the wild boar becomes more and more abundant. Therefore in this paper we discuss the negative impact of wild boar on the other animals and forest vegetation. Red deer becomes slightly less abundant, however the significant changes in abundance do not occurs. The population of elk remains stabile, but they are the less abundant ungulate animals in the reserve.
