| Summary: | June 1904. Looking up Scatcherd Hill from Morley Bottoms in the summer of 1904 (the white road is caused by sunshine not snow). The photograph was taken by Dan Wilkinson for sale at A. Wilkinson's newsagents shop, shown in the picture by all the posters on the wall: for pen nibs, penny stores, Dyers at Perth, the Morley Almanac and the Morley Observer. The Morley Observer posters at ground level detail Russian disasters, when the Russian navy sailed half way round the world from the Arctic to the Pacific to be wiped out by the Japanese in one of the shortest engagements ever in June 1904. It also mentions the centenary of Rawdon College (training for the Baptist Ministry), which took place in June 1904. Articles in Misses Green's shop window on the left are priced at half-a-crown, some of the old terraces higher up the hill have not yet been converted to shops while one of the tall buildings on the right hand side sports the three brass balls of a pawn shop.
